Really, it's just not worth the headache. I've had sound working for quite a while, basic sound playback is a breeze just like it should be on todays Linux, but only one sound event at a time. I've got multiple sound events working at a time now, but only with Alsa. I know I can force OSS and Esd stuff over Alsa, I'm just going to have to figure out how.
