I recently acquired a secondhand UK slow cooker, after pining after (and doing without) one for three years, so I'm getting reacquainted with slow cooking. It's so great--almost like having someone else cook at least part of the meal! Here is my current favorite recipe; it only covers the meat portion of the meal, but you can make it so far ahead that all you have to do at dinnertime is make some mashed potatoes (or other suitable starch) and some veggies, which seems so much easier than cooking... read more
